Synopsis :
Jest rok 1920,pewien mieszkaniec miasta - Jean, chcąc zacząć nowe życie przeprowadza się na wieś aby zacząć życie jako rolnik, farmer. Jean jest spokojnym i prostolinijnym, dobrym i pracowitym człowiekiem, który na względzie ma jedynie dobro swojej rodziny. Ma on sąsiada którym jest Cesar chciwy i zaborczy farmer który za wszelką cenę chce uprzykrzyć życie Jeanowi i tym skłonić go do opuszczenia ziemi, na którą sam ma chęć. Aby utrudnić Jeanowi uprawę, Cesar zatrzymuje strumień, z którego Jean zamierzał nawodnić sadzonki. Szczęśliwym trafem natura idzie z pomocą Jeanowi. Film jest świetnie obsadzony i doskonale portretuje prowincję francuską na początku XX w. Film obsypany nagrodami -min. Cezarem w 1987, nagrodą BAFTA, a także nominacją do Złotego Globu.
